Welcome to Benson Stage Academy

The Benson Stage Academy provides dance classes in a friendly atmosphere, by highly qualified teachers. Your budding dancer will learn to express themselves with confidence in all forms of dance. All classes are designed to improve your child’s posture, health, and confidence. We offer tuition in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Cheer dance, Freestyle, Acro and Strictly Solo.

Founded in 1945 by the late Miss Mamie Benson we are proud to be the longest established dance school in Scarborough. Our studio can be found on commercial street, it is situated behind the Commercial Pub next to Crown Glass Glazing.

Classes

Ballet

Ballet is a classical dance form which allows pupils to create wonderful poise and develop good posture, elegance, balance, and co-ordination.

Tap

This is a fantastic dance style for all ages! Helping build strength in the legs and feet, in addition to to increasing flexibility in the hips, knees and ankles.

Modern

Modern is a popular class encompassing components from several different dance techniques inc Contemporary, Jazz, Commercial & Modern.

Cheer

Cheerleading Classes incorporate skills from dance & moves from acro. Encouraging athletic discipline, strength, co-ordination & flexibility.

Freestyle

Freestyle is a modern, expressive and varied dance style. It involves runs, spins, kicks and leaps, as well as many other diverse steps and movements.

Acro

Acro is a new blend of dance style. It combines classical techniques with acrobatic skills.

Shows

We usually do two shows a year. Our annual whole school show is held every March at The YMCA Scarborough. From the proceeds of this show we make donations to charities and projects chosen by the pupils such as Sands, Alzheimer’s Society and the Melanoma Fund.

Our other show is usually in September. This is performed by pupils who chose to attend classes though the summer holidays. The proceeds from this show go towards the schools wardrobe fund, which provides costumes for our dancers.
